What's your favorite distribution? And what are you using now?

Gentoo/Gentoo for me Smile... I've tried a very wide varity including but not limited to: SuSE, Mandrake, RedHat/Fedora, Gentoo, Debian, College, etc...

Edit: I made it sticky. This question is always asked and there should only be one topic about it.

Thx Hanz..

Gentoo is by far the best personal Linux flavor around. I run a small-scale server with a few services running and I've had nothing but success. Unfortunately, RH is what I have to use in the workplace because of its enterprise support capabilities; it's not terrible but it feels pretty bloated compared to Gentoo. It should be interesting to see how the Linux playing field changes now that IBM had a large interest in the Novell purchase of Suse.

Cheers,
Jon

Favorite is Debian. Apt-get is great for installing software, if there is already a pkg made, and for keeping the distro up to date.

Makedrake is good because they build the latest packages and support the newest hardware. YMMV.

I like RedHat with thier kickstart. Kickstart is great for multiple systems.

I used SW when all apps fit on about 20 1.44 disks.

Don't forget freesco - the one disk router--New use for your 233 pent with no HD.

I saw several people mention Gentoo, I will probably look into it just to say I did. :-)

Yo Xcal_Styles when someone is asking what's your favorite distro they're talking more along the lines of desktops, & servers. Not a single floppy distro. Embarassed

FREESCO is a *single floppy distribution* of Linux, intended to be a replacement for minor Cisco routers.

ahhhhh ya... Read the last post ..... I saved my last company major money using freesco on old desktops.

And if you read the 4th post up from my freesco post you will see which distro I like the best.

Listening and Hearing are two different things ;)

My Favorite is Gentoo but it takes so long to install but it runs smoother than all other versions... I have my Hard drive patitioned in 3 parts one running windows one running Gentoo and one running Fedora Core.. I like Fedora just because it is easy to install..

Ive always wanted to try Gentoo but I just dont think im ready to try it, I started using linux about 2 months ago and Ive read the Gentoo Install Manual all the documentation and it just seems confusing. I really would like to try it though becuase of what Ive heard of it.

I've been using Debian for some years now, tho I am not 100 % satisfied with it I don't see it so bad that I would need to go and change my distro.

My first distro was SuSE, which also was quite good, especially for beginners. I dont recall the reason for changing it to debian.
