Example #16

    Resolution:
Applies only to individuals with ATI cards and Catalyst drivers revision 4.11 and older. This information is provided to consolidate information from old threads, this is not to be construed as endorsement of running older drivers. The drivers mentioned in this example were the releases causing the issue. As of this revision, this example will apply to very few people.

The information in this article applies to the following configurations:
    • RADEON 9500 or Higher
    • PunkBuster Online Gaming Servers
    • Windows XP

Random hanging has been observed with certain games on certain systems when using the PunkBuster server.

To resolve this issue, please follow these instructions:
    • Download and install drivers newer than CATALYST 4.11 Release which resolves the majority of cases of this hang.
(We almost always recommend the latest releases of video drivers which can be found here)

    Note:
If you have Catalyst Control Center previously installed, you will need to reinstall it .
You may download Catalyst Control Center if required.

Example #17

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: <player name> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION. UNKNOWN WINDOWS API FUNCTION [131127]

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: <player name> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION. UNKNOWN WINDOWS API FUNCTION [131129]

    Resolution:
    Remove Virus/Trojan/Malware Infection!

    Note:
    • Application SpyCatcher Express and dmwclient.exe are also known to cause this issue.
    • Several Trojans/Virii hook these API functions and are the causes for getting these kicks.
    • On clean installs of Windows, these kicks will not occur.

Example #21

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: username has been kicked for an undefined reason PUNKBUSTER KICKED PLAYER username (FOR 0 MINUTES)...RESTRICTION SERVICE COMMUNICATION FAILURE: PNKBSTRA.EXE

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: username has been kicked for an undefined reason PUNKBUSTER KICKED PLAYER username (FOR 0 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION: SERVICE COMMUNICATION FAILURE: PNKBSTRB.EXE DRIVER FAILURE (PNKBSTRK.SYS)

    Note:
There are many different versions of these kick messages.
There are also several versions of the kick that show up after playing. These can be caused by America's Army not being the foreground application. (Alt-Tabbed)

    Resolution 1:
    Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center -> Windows Firewall -> Exceptions -> Add Program -> Browse -> C:\Windows\System32 -> PnkBstrA.exe (repeat for PnkBstrB.exe).
(This is for the windows firewall, other firewalls will have different instructions)

    Resolution 2:
Please follow the steps listed here. If the issues still persist, the topic asks you to fill out a Web Support Ticket with EvenBalance. Additionally, firewalls and routers can cause similar issues.

    Resolution Failed:
    • Uninstall America's Army from "Add/Remove Programs"
    • Delete America's Army directory located within "Program Files"
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Reinstall (Lastest version-Full Install)
    • Open game client, then close
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Run PBSetup.exe
    • Start Game

Example #22

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: username has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION: Corrupted Packet Flow

    Cause:
You have Windows Live OneCare installed on your computer. (aka Microsoft Security Essentials)
You have Zone Alarm installed on your computer.
You have Avast! installed on your computer.
We are also working to identify other software that may cause this issue.

Windows Live OneCare (aka Microsoft Security Essentials)
Exclude PnkBstrA.exe, PnkBstrB.exe and PnkBstrK.sys from the One Care scanning targets ( One Care>Change Settings>Viruses and Spyware> Exclusions>Add ). also uncheck "Look for virus like behavior" while playing America's Army.
These files are located in C\Windows\System32\.

it has also been sugested to revert the recent updates of Live OneCare.

Windows Live One Care. 64 bit VISTA (may also work on other versions)
Right click Windows Live OneCare icon in the lower right corner of your screen and open Windows Live OneCare.
Left click on the 4th tab (Virus and Spyware)
At the bottom of that window left click on the Exclusions... button and add the following files.
    C:\windows\sysWOW64\pbsvc.exe
    C:\windows\sysWOW64\PnkBstrA.exe
    C:\windows\sysWOW64\PnkBstrB.exe
    C:\windows\sysWOW64\PnkBstrB.xtr

    LIve OneCare Support

    zonealarm security suite
Does not include the freeware version, just the spyware checks in the commercial version.

Thankfully in the firewall tab in the left menu theres a "set gaming mode" button under quick tasks..click "answer all alerts with allow",and remember when you close the small window gameing mode is turned back off.

    Avast!
Deactivating your avast!-virus On-Access Scanner, which is simply done by right-clicking the avast! system tray icon in the lower right and selecting "Stop On Access Protection". Courtesy of Ragerin

NOTE:You don't have the previously listed programs?
NOTE:None of this works for you??

Please fill out a trouble ticket with Even Balance

Example #23

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: username has been kicked for an undefined reason : PUNKBUSTER KICKED PLAYER username (for 0 minutes) ... restriction : UNKNOWN WINDOWS API FUNCTION [131125]

This is caused by anti-malware products that use "ThreatFire". Following products are known to be incampatible at this time:

  • PC Tools Internet Security
