Example #1

Loss of communication or timed out updating PunkBuster automatically.

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() KICK NOTIFICATION: <players name> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 2 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION: no packet flow

    Causes:
    • PunkBuster client files out-of-date
    • Spyware hijacking your internet connection
    • Internet Service Provider (ISP) network maintenance
    • Firewall configured incorrectly
    • Wireless internet connection

    Resolution:
    • Run PBSetup.exe explained in Example #2 below.
    • Run a Tracert on a Server IP and be sure there are no timeouts.

    How to run Tracert:
    • Go to Start...Run...Type:cmd
    • Then at the DOS Prompt Type: Tracert ipaddress
    • (ipaddress is the numerical address of the server)

Example #2

Client PunkBuster files may be outdated or corrupt, auto-update feature fails to correct issue.

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM()KICK NOTIFICATION: <players name> has been kicked for an undifined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES)... VISIT WWW.EVENBALANCE.COM TO MANUALLY UPDATE YOUR PB FILES

    Resolution:
Just as it states, update PunkBuster manually. One method would be to use PBSetup.exe, which is explained below for your convenience. Another method would be to download the files directly from EvenBalance, which is linked to at the end of this post.

    Step #1
PBSetup.exe is included with proper installation of America's Army v2.6 or higher, including the latest version.
    • Goto C:\Program Files\Americas Army\System\PBSetup directory
    • Run PBSetup.exe
    • Choose "I Agree to End User License Agreement (EULA)" - only prompts on first-run of program
    • Choose "Add Game" and select America's Army from the drop-down menu
    • Choose "Check for Updates" and wait patiently

    Step #2
In the console type pb_security 0 into the console, which allows you to play on Servers that have not yet received their updates.

    Warning:
Certain Leased Server's will kick you for a CVAR violation if their CVAR's only allow players to use the default pb_security 1.

    Note:
If the above two steps did not resolve your issue, manually update by downloading the files from EvenBalance.

    Note:
Please download the latest copy of PBSetup.

Example #3

Your computer has Inadequate Operating System (O/S) privileges.

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() KICK NOTIFICATION: <players name> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES) ... RESTRICTION: INADEQUATE O/S PRIVILEGES

    Resolution:
User not using a Windows Administrative account or spyware/malware has changed the policy. Use Look2MeDestroyer & VX2Finder(126) to remove malware and restore the policy.

    XP Home Users
      Instructions:

    • Download and Run Look2MeDestroyer
    • Close all windows before continuing
    • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
    • Put a check next to "Run this program as a task"
    • You will receive a message saying "Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute" - click "OK"
    • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the "Scan for L2M" button. Your desktop icons may disappear, this is normal
    • Once it's done scanning, click the "Remove L2M" button
    • You will receive a "Done Scanning" message - click "OK"
    • When completed, you will receive the message "Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer" - click "OK".
    • Your computer will then shutdown
    • Turn your computer back on

    • Download and run VX2Finder MSG126
    • Click the "Find VX2.BetterInternet Info" button
    • If there are NO files listed in the bottom box, go on to the last step (Choose Restore Policy)

      • Select by checking the boxes in front of file or files
      • Choose 'Delete These Files'
      • The program will delete all the files but one that will be deleted on reboot
      • Allow PC to reboot, or manually reboot

    • Run VX2finder again
    • Choose "Guardian.reg" If greyed out skip
    • Choose "User Agent" If greyed out skip

      • Manage auditing and security log
      • Modify Firmware environment values
      • Profile Single Process

This is done by double-clicking on the setting and then the "Add User or Group" button. You can either type the user or group name into the field or click on "Advanced" to select from a list.
    • If you select "Advanced", you may need to click on the "Object Types" button and make sure all 3 boxes are checked. Then click "OK".
    • Click on the "Find Now" button to generate a full list of all users and groups on the system.
    • Highlight the user you want to add the rights to and click "OK".
    • Keep clicking "OK" until you are back at the "Local Security Settings" window.
    • Repeat this process for the rest of the list.

    • Goto Start, Run and type compmgmt.msc
    • Choose "Local Users and Groups"
    • Choose "Groups"

Example #4

GUID Ban: Someone has used your account to play while cheating
Hardware Ban: You have applications, files, or hardware that is directly interfering with the PunkBuster system processes/services.

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() "KICK NOTIFICATION: <playername> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM THIS GAME SERVER VIA PUNKBUSTER ... GLOBAL PUNKBUSTER GUID BAN xxxxxxxx"

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() "KICK NOTIFICATION: <playername> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM THIS GAME SERVER VIA PUNKBUSTER ... GLOBAL PUNKBUSTER HARDWARE BAN xxxxxxxx"

    Resolution (Hardware Ban):
You must fill out a web support ticket pleading your "case" in detail.

    Resolution (GUID Ban):
Contact the Server Administrator(s). You may be directed to an Anti-Cheat Community or EvenBalance.

Example #5

Operating System (O\S) Exception Error (continues to scroll in chat window)

          O/S Exception
          O/S Exception
          O/S Exception
          O/S Exception
          O/S Exception

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() KICK NOTIFICATION: <players name> has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES)... RESTRICTION: O/S Exception

    Resolution:
The Operating System (O/S) Exception notice is from a conflict with PunkBuster and some software or hardware on your system such as out-dated or none existing Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drivers.
    • Update Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drivers for your motherboard.
    • Close all programs on your system, including messengers and anti-virus and then start the game.
    • If you do not get the message you can start turning programs back on.
    • If you still do, check for driver and firmware updates for your hardware, especially Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drivers, as they seem to cause the most issues.
    • Defragment your hard drive
    • Complete Example #1 (Manually update PunkBuster)
    • Reboot Personal Computer

    Resolution Failed:
    • Uninstall America's Army from "Add/Remove Programs"
    • Delete America's Army directory located within "Program Files"
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Reinstall
    • Open game client, then close
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Run PBSetup.exe
    • Start Game

Note: If you have custom keybinds you want to save, move User.ini from Program Files\America's Army\System folder to a safe folder or desktop until reinstallation is complete.Do not re-use this file, just use it for reference to restore your binds

Example #6

America's Army\System directory contains files with no extensions or files that should not be there.

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION: player name has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 2 MINUTES) ... VIOLATION (FILE WHITELIST)<file name>

    Resolution:
Remove or rename files located in your America's Army\System directory that have no file extension with the correct extension. If that fails reinstall the game.

    Note:
If files extensions do not appear, do the following:
    • Open "My Computer"
    • Choose "Tools"
    • Choose "Folder Options"
    • Choose "View Tab"
    • Un-check "Hide extensions of known file types"
    • Choose "Apply"
    • Choose "OK"

    Common Files to be Deleted:
    • Tactical_Training.aao (Found in /Maps directory)
    • X-Temp.utx (Found in /Textures directory)
    • RTAxxxx (xxxx denotes set of four [4] numbers)
    • RTGxxxx (xxxx denotes set of four [4] numbers)
    • RGCxxxx (xxxx denotes set of four [4] numbers)
    • RTExxxx (xxxx denotes set of four [4] numbers)

    Note:
Whitelist #9008 can be a communication error, it can also be caused by too many Server joins in one session. Exiting the game and restarting the computer can help resolve this specific issue.

    Note:
Run PBSetup.exe, explained in Example #2, if you begin receiving this kick after the latest PunkBuster client update.

Example #7

You are running process software that blocks PunkBuster functionality.

Quote:

KICK NOTIFICATION:<playername>has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR 0 MINUTES) ...RESTRICTION:BLOCKED O/S PRIVILEGES

    EvenBalance Resolution FAQ:
Please temporarily disable other security type programs you have running such as anti-virus, process guard, SDProtector, etc. to find out which of them is blocking PB's access to resources on your computer. You either need to run PB without the blocking program(s) or play on non-PB servers.

    Note:
Process Guard must be removed completely, manual uninstall:
    • Reboot your operating system into SAFE-MODE. To do this Reboot your machine, and just after your BIOS screen disappears keep pressing the F8 key. A menu should appear, select "Safe Mode" and press "Enter".
    • Windows will ask you if you are sure you want to be in SAFE-MODE, answer yes. Then login to the same account you installed ProcessGuard from. If for some reason you cannot log into the same account, skip ahead to step 4 after logging in as the Administrator.
    • Run ProcessGuard's uninstall utility. You can see this from the Start Menu -> ProcessGuard -> Uninstall.
    • To verify the removal, make sure procguard.sys does not exist in your Windows\system32\drivers directory, and that procguard.dll and pguard.dat are not in your Windows\system32 directory. If they still exist delete them.
    • Reboot your machine, ProcessGuard will now be removed.
    • Go to Start...Run...Type:Notepad <hitenter>
    • Copy the Code below to Notepads text area
    • Choose File and Save AS
    • Name it cleanreg.reg (do not leave off the .reg extenstion)
    • Save the file to your desktop or somewhere easy to find
    • Right Click on the file cleanreg.reg and Choose Merge
    • Choose Yes to add to registry
    • Choose OK to Confirm

    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services]
    "DCSPGSRV"=-

Also make sure you run the game under an Administrator or equivalent account. If you do have access an Administrator account, you can right click on the application you want to run and select "Run As". This will allow you to give Administrator access to that program and should allow you to play with a limited user.

Resolution fix for 98% of users:
From a very, very long research process with many users to thank for testing various fixes. We have found that this kick more often comes from a corrupt users profile database, either from a trojan or from the install of zone alarm (most often), or other 3rd party firewall which conflicted with the installation and configuration of service packs.

    Note:
The only 100% working resolution for everyone is to reformat and reinstall the Operating System (O/S), updating all of service pack updates and Windows hotfixes\updates before attempting to install a 3rd party firewall.

Still not fixed? Please fill out a Support Ticket.

Example #8

Game File Mismatch: <filename>

Quote:

ScriptLog: HC::TM() KICK NOTIFICATION: player name has been kicked for an undefined reason: YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED VIA PUNKBUSTER (FOR # MINUTES)... Game File Mismatch:<file name>

    Resolution:
Replace listed file with original version or reinstall the game.
This can be caused from bad install, corrupt map(s) or exploited game file(s).
    • Uninstall America's Army from "Add/Remove Programs"
    • Delete America's Army directory located within "Program Files"
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Reinstall (Latest version-Full install)
    • Open game client, then close
    • Reboot Personal Computer
    • Run PBSetup.exe
    • Start Game

Example #9

After updating to PunkBuster client version v1.204 you receive a General Protection Fault while joining PunkBuster enabled Server's.

Below is is the crash text for America's Army version 2.7
    Quote:

    Quote:

    General protection fault!

    History: UGameEngine::LoadMap <- AttemptLoadPending <- TickPending <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level map name <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop

    Resolution:
This issue is from a program that conflicts with PunkBuster. There are a few known programs that cause this issue. They are listed below. Action needed to resolve will consist of stopping the program from running while gaming via task manager by using "end task" or completely removing the program.

~e5.0001 (started by games such as Doom 3, Sims 2 and Football Manager 2005)
      3dnasys.exe
      -A-All-In-One-Keylogger
      Adobe Flash Player version 9,0,115,0
      AudioMatic
      B4AOTB.exe (Easy 1 button Backup)
      Backup4all.exe (Easy 1 button Backup)
ctfmon.exe (Microsoft Office) (Link to MS KB article)
      cybrcrdr.exe (CyberCorder)
      Dr. Watson
      DU Super Controler
      ezi_hnm2.exe (Dell Network Assistant)
      F-Secure Anti Virus (some versions)
      Get Right
      Girder 3.2
      Google Earth
      hldasvc.exe (HDDlife HDD Access service)
      ICQ 6
      IPcheck Server Monitor 5
      ItunesHelper.exe
      Macro Toolsworks
      mIRCStats
      Microsoft Works 7.0
      newsLeecher.exe
      Omega Messanger.exe
      prtg4.exe (Paessler Router Traffic Grapher)
      Peerguardian
      PRTG Traffic Grapher
rundll32.exe (specifically Nvidia software in background)
      SECRETMAKER.EXE
      sntpserv.exe (SNTP Time Synchronization Service)
      Spybot Search & Destroy
      Spyware Doctor
      Spywareguard
      SpyWatcher
      uaservice7.exe (SecuROM User Access Service)
      Videozilla Ultra Video converter
      VNC (realvnc) (VNC mirror driver)
      VNC Server
      WavXDocMgr.exe
      Webroots SpySweeper
      xptools.exe

    Note:
  • Go to the punkbuster website, and download the latest updates manually, if you do not have the preceeding processes running.

    Note:
  • When using TSO.exe (TeamSpeak Overlay Build #63) in conjunction with ArmyOps.ini entry of RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice, this will cause crash.

    Note:
  • This list is NOT all inclusive - there can be other programs/processes that cause this problem - you need to find the one that is causing your problems if you do not have any of the above running. When you find a new program/process that causes this problem, please private message one of the Moderators here and we will add it to the list. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Note:
  • If your map name is listed as "Untitled", your issue is likely between Kapersky Anti-virus and a recent Microsoft Critical Update (KB917422).
  • Here is a potential fix for the error. The conflict does not appear to be limited to Kaspersky anymore. The map may show a name, rather than "Untitled".

      Current workaround for v2.5:
    • Open the Game
    • Choose "Personal Jacket"
    • Verify your user name and password are filled in, and check "remember password"
    • Un-check "automatically login"
    • Close game and reopen
