I'm a inexperienced player here, been playing for about 3 weeks out of Shanghai. I'm an older expat from USA, been playing the main commercial FPS games for a year or so but never really got into the multiplayer games because of all the 'killer kids' running around shooting anything that moves and not ever playing to win as a TEAM.

I know I have internet issues.....hell, I'm in Shanghai with the great firewall.

Just bought new keyboard & mouse (Logitech G110 & G500) but don't know whether the 'rig' can handle the action.

Biggest problems; considering I'm new
1) LAG.....my ping is as high as +/- .900 and by the time my bullets are on target I've had my head blown off. Hit a hostile with half a mag of rounds from about 10 meters and then he turns around to face me a fires of 1-2 rounds that end my career.

2) COMS.....have new Logitech headset with mic but it seems to bad after a few minutes and I lose the mic

3) Weapon reliability.... I swear that every 2-3 matches I have serious problem where guns jam or mysteriously fail and a reload doesn't do anything. Sometimes the main rail goes away and I lose any sights I had. Frags take a ridiculously long time to prep and throw and sometimes there's NO granade visible in my hand although I know I have a couple.

Any help would be seriously appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Post your dxdiag log please.

    (XP)
      Go to START....then RUN

    (VISTA/Win7)
Go to Windows Logo....then ALL PROGRAMS....then ACCESSORIES....then RUN

    Type:dxdiag <hit enter>
    It will gather the information
make sure that you check the 64 bit if using 64 bit operating system
Choose Save All Information....Save it to your desktop
    Then Exit or Minimize dxdiag
Open the file you just saved and hit keys CTRL+A (this will select all text)
Right Click on the highlighted text and Choose Copy
In a Reply Post....Right Click and Paste
You can Close and Delete that File off your desktop.

****************

Find a server that you want to play
Write down the IP address
Join the server, if you get lag, disconnected or kicked
Go to Start...Run...Type:cmd
Then at the DOS Prompt Type:Tracert ipaddress
(ipaddress is the one of the server)
After the tracert says complete, Right Click in the DOS window and choose select all
Go up to the top left corner choose Embedded Image
Choose Copy
Come back to this post and Right Click and Choose Paste

BTW....I have open the various ports on my router per another post I found. That did seem to work better but I need to monitor that over more time to see if it's really working.

Any tips on 'tuning my machine' other than overclocking would be appreciated.

m_hermann,

First of all, xie xie ni for your response,

Can I assume from your response that other than Win7(64)bit, my machine is big & healthy enough to play? I am thinking about adding a better sound card and would listen to suggestions.

Regarding Win7(64), would this actually impact the speed of anything by using more of 'that juicy RAM' in playing online gaming? I'm listening......

I would have to see if that doesn't impact anything else I use on this machine; it's still used for regular work and other daily tasks. I would consider a different login account on the machine and set it up to run less services and none of the network/internet apps in the background that I use daily.

The most aggravating aspect right now is getting my butt blown away every round because I'm 1/2 to 2/3rds a second behind everybody else. My shots are on target from my perspective but they are rarely effective against the hostiles. It takes almost 3 secs to select & throw a grenade or switch to xm320. Sometimes my hands are empty and I have to do all sorts of things to get my weapon back. Is that a consequence of network speed?

I've done the homework, past training as either Expert (Rifleman, all grenades, xm320) or Proficient in everything else including Medic. I've read/printed the manuals and spent hours reading forum posts to be better prepared.

Any suggestions, ideas would be appreciated, I really love this game and would be a firm supporter but it's quite frustrating to survive a mere 2 minutes of battle before being whacked for reason related to network speed.

Finally, can you direct me to any screen shots or documents regarding the post game scoring and other information, can't find that much in the manual. It also displays so fast that by the time I've found my name in the lists....it goes onto the next phase or match.

Thanks again and Happy Fraggin,

m_hermann

The machine is decent, can you post the previously requested tracert to see how bad the network is?

your router seems to be blocking ICMP packets

The second result is from Texas to California

I'm sorting out the blocking ICMP packets and will test again.

Just curious whether it is common that my ping speed increases during gameplay over a short time.

Game display a Ping on the scoreboard after 1 round at about +/- 400 but climbs to over 800 by the end of 2-3 matches. It's then almost unplayable due to the lag, delay, whatever. I'm back to the 3 second weapon change and a butt whipping Sad

I Exit Server, join again and it drops back down to that initial speed. Over and over and over.

But I won't give up Smile

A network near capacity will do all sorts of strange things to traffic.
Some of what you see is server side ping spikes, you can't fix those (yet)
